Losing weight the right way

Weight loss Quest: Learn to strike a balance

Have you been beasting away every day at the gym and wonder why you are not losing that weight?  You should know that losing weight the right way is not a sprint but a marathon. Afterall you didn’t gain all that weight in a day.

Many mistakes we make is trying to do too much in a short time. Sometimes we are too focused on dieting that we neglect exercise or vice versa.

Over exercising on its own has its drawbacks. According to experts your body needs a healthy balance of exercise and rest. Doing too much exercise prevents the body from shifting excess fat. Exercising without rest can impact our levels of the steroid hormone –cortisol and cause an increase of stubborn fat stored in the belly.

Yo-yo dieting without incorporating the proper exercise regimen is equally frustrating because it’s usually not sustainable and not healthy.

Diet can have a huge effect on the way you feel. Eating too much junk foods or sugary treats can make you feel lethargic and not your best. If you don’t feel your best you are more likely to slip into a negative mindset. When you don’t feel good about yourself, then that can have a terrible effect on your weight loss quest.

My Weight Loss Story: Eat This Way and Lose Weight!

A study by researchers from Bangor University, Wales, on the impact of exercise on the brain and heart health of their participants found after up to eight weeks of intensive cardio training three times a week, people experience no significant change to their weight or BMI if their diet stays the same.

Dr Hans-Peter Kubis from Bangor University, said: ‘When people take up exercise, they often restrict their diet — consciously or unconsciously — and this can mask the effects of the exercise.’
‘To be effective, exercise training for weight loss needs to be integrated into a lifestyle approach to weight loss, including exercise combined with diet.’

Don’t be discouraged if your weight does not change despite your intense exercise.

According to the researchers, among those of a healthy weight, intense exercise does significantly increase their mean muscle mass, which the researchers added should encourage people to be active despite the lack of weight-loss effects.

Instead of giving yourself an ambitious target in your weight loss quest, learn to strike a balance between exercise and a healthy lifestyle of healthy diet and exercise, taking one day at a time.

You will get there.
